When to Book a Wedding Photographer: Tips from a Berkshire Wedding Photographer

Engagement, Tips for Brides & Grooms

Wondering when to book a wedding photographer? As a Berkshire wedding photographer, I’m often asked how far in advance couples should secure their photographer.

Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting—and sometimes overwhelming—journeys you’ll ever take. Between choosing venues, florists and entertainment, the list of decisions can feel endless. One of the most important choices, however, is who you trust to capture the unforgettable memories of your wedding day.

While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, there are clear timelines that will help you lock in the right photographer and avoid disappointment.

Why Booking Your Wedding Photographer Early Matters

Summer Saturdays, bank holidays and special calendar dates (think 06/06/26 or New Year’s Eve) are in high demand. If your wedding falls in peak season, securing your photographer early is essential.

2. Peace of Mind

Once you’ve booked, you can relax knowing you have someone you trust to document your day. You’ll also have plenty of time to plan engagement sessions or timeline chats with your photographer.

3. Build a Relationship

Booking early allows us to get to know each other. The more comfortable you feel around your photographer, the more natural and authentic your wedding photos will be.

Wedding Photography Booking Timeline

12–18 Months Before Your Wedding

This is the ideal time to book, especially if you’re getting married between May and September. At this stage you’ll have the widest choice of dates. Once you’ve confirmed your venue, a Berkshire wedding photographer like me is usually next on the list.

6–12 Months Before

You’ll still find some availability, particularly for mid-week weddings or celebrations outside the busiest summer months.

Less Than 6 Months Before

It’s always worth enquiring, as cancellations do happen. If I’m already booked, I’ll happily recommend trusted fellow photographers in Berkshire and the surrounding counties.

Planning a Short Engagement?

Not every couple wants to wait years to say “I do.” If you’re planning your Berkshire wedding on a shorter timescale, get in touch as soon as possible. Even if your dream photographer isn’t free, chances are they can recommend someone with a similar style.

Final Thoughts

From my perspective as a Berkshire wedding photographer, the best time to book is right after you’ve secured your venue and date. That way, you won’t risk disappointment, and you’ll have plenty of time to build a great connection with the person capturing your memories.

If you’re looking for wedding photography in Berkshire, I’ll capture your story in a natural and timeless way.  I’d love to hear from you  – your wedding day deserves to be remembered beautifully.

Annabel was a great photographer at our wedding – she was not only on time (key for all of those early “getting-ready” snaps that us girls love), but she also made everyone feel so at ease throughout the day!

From the first moment we spoke to her we knew we were in good hands. The best part was that Annabel sent us a checklist of things that we should think about before we had even booked our venue (!) – the list was not only helpful in picking out what style of photos we wanted, but it pretty much helped us arrange the whole wedding day and allowed us to think about all of those little touches! I would highly recommend Annabel if you are looking for a professional, easy going and friendly photographer to take those special moment photos during your day that you don’t even notice are being taken. Thank you Annabel – we absolutely love our photos”.
