Spring Wedding at The Old Mill, Aldermaston

Venues, Weddings

As a Berkshire wedding photographer, this is one of my favourite times of year for wedding photography. Spring brings a fresh, romantic feel to every moment from soft natural light to delicate seasonal blooms such as daffodils and cherry blossom. It creates the perfect backdrop for timeless wedding photos. At The Old Mill Aldermaston the waterside setting brings it all together.

There’s something undeniably romantic about an April wedding at The Old Mill Aldermaston. This stunning countryside location is set beside the gentle flow of the river Kennett and Avon. This historic Grade II listed Berkshire venue feels especially magical when the days grow longer, the light softens, and the first blooms of spring begin to appear.

Romantic riverside wedding reception at The Old Mill Aldermaston

Sarah and James had a meaningful religious ceremony at St Mary’s Church, Basingstoke which was where they first met. They then headed over to the Old Mill in Aldermaston to celebrate with a outdoor riverside drinks reception with canapés, making the most of the early Spring sunshine. Guests congratulated the couple and the entire day carried that warm, joyful vibe.

April weddings can be absolutely beautiful but in the UK, they do come with a few unpredictabilities that are worth planning for. Famous for its “April showers,” you can have sunshine, rain, wind, and even the occasional cold snap all in one day. It’s always a good idea to bring umbrella’s and a little shrug to keep warm just in case.

Why The Old Mill Aldermaston is perfect for a waterside wedding

The surrounding countryside and river views create a naturally picturesque backdrop, ideal for relaxed couple portraits and candid moments. As a Berkshire wedding photographer, I love venues like this that combine character, nature, and beautiful light in one place.

Photographic opportunities unfold naturally at The Old Mill, beginning at the main entrance and driveway, there’s an immediate sense of arrival framed by mature tree, ideal for establishing shots and candid guest moments.

Moving toward the Mill building and Mill Room, the historic character of the original 19th-century flour mill provides texture, symmetry, and timeless backdrops, while nearby Conservatory and Garden patio create pockets for relaxed portraits and candid guest shots. The romantic Twinkle Trail is staged for intimate couple portraits.

The riverbanks and streams of the River Kennet, which weave through the grounds, are particularly striking, offering reflections, soft light, and seasonal spring colour, perfect for romantic couple shots whilst he gardens and lawns open up opportunities for wide, scenic compositions, group photography, and golden-hour imagery.

The quieter corners of The Old Mill Aldermaston such as the bridge crossings and waterside paths lend themselves to storytelling detail shots. Altogether, each location flows into the next, making the venue not just a beautiful setting but a Berkshire Wedding Photographers dream.

There’s something so full of hope about a March wedding, the beginning of a new season, longer lighter days, and the first blooms of spring appearing all around. As a Berkshire wedding photographer, I absolutely love this time of year. With daffodils coming into bloom...

Annabel was a great photographer at our wedding – she was not only on time (key for all of those early “getting-ready” snaps that us girls love), but she also made everyone feel so at ease throughout the day!

From the first moment we spoke to her we knew we were in good hands. The best part was that Annabel sent us a checklist of things that we should think about before we had even booked our venue (!) – the list was not only helpful in picking out what style of photos we wanted, but it pretty much helped us arrange the whole wedding day and allowed us to think about all of those little touches! I would highly recommend Annabel if you are looking for a professional, easy going and friendly photographer to take those special moment photos during your day that you don’t even notice are being taken. Thank you Annabel – we absolutely love our photos”.
