Getting Married During the 2026 World Cup? A Berkshire Wedding Photographer’s Advice

Tips for Brides & Grooms, Venues, Weddings

If you’re planning a summer 2026 wedding in Berkshire, you may have already realised that something pretty big is happening at the same time… The FIFA World Cup 2026 runs from June to July, right in the middle of peak wedding season.

As a Berkshire wedding photographer, I’ve photographed weddings that fall on major sporting days — World Cups, Euros, Wimbledon finals and everything in between.

The good news. Your wedding can still be relaxed, emotional and beautifully photographed — even if the World Cup is on.

Here’s my honest, experience-led advice to help you plan with confidence.

First Things First: Don’t Panic

This is the first thing I tell my couples.

Most guests will:

  • Be there to celebrate you
  • Happily, miss a match for a wedding
  • Or appreciate a thoughtful plan if there’s a clash

From a Berkshire wedding photographer’s point of view, these weddings often turn out to be more fun and more memorable than couples expect.

How the World Cup Actually Affects a Wedding Day

In reality, it usually shows up in just a few small ways:

1. Phones during the drinks reception

Guests may quietly check scores — especially during group stages.

📸 Photographer insight: This rarely lasts long once drinks, canapés and conversation get going.

2. Guest energy levels

If there’s a big match later in the day, guests often bring extra excitement, not distraction.

This usually means:

  • A lively reception
  • More interaction
  • A packed dancefloor later on

3. Timings (the only thing worth planning properly)

If a key match overlaps with your ceremony or speeches, that’s when stress can creep in — but it’s completely avoidable.

Smart Planning Tips From a Berkshire Wedding Photographer

✔ Think About Your Ceremony Time

If you have flexibility:

  • Earlier ceremonies = calmer atmosphere
  • Late afternoon ceremonies may clash with evening kick-offs

Earlier ceremonies also mean better natural light for photos, especially at Berkshire venues with beautiful grounds such as Hidden Barn in Hungerford where theses photos were captured

✔ Make the Most of Your Drinks Reception

If a match is on later:

  • Keep guests busy with drinks, music or garden games even a magician
  • Use this time for relaxed couple portraits
  • Avoid over-tight schedules

As a Berkshire wedding photographer, this is often when I capture the most natural, candid images — guests laughing, chatting and enjoying the summer weather.

✔ If You Decide to Show the World Cup Match — Embrace It

Some couples lean into it, and honestly, it can work brilliantly.

Good options include:

  • A separate lounge or snug
  • An outdoor screen at a country venue
  • Sound low or off during key moments

From a photography perspective, this creates:

  • Brilliant storytelling moments
  • Genuine reactions
  • Fun, documentary-style images that feel very “you”

Will the World Cup Ruin the Atmosphere?

Short answer: No.

Some of my favourite weddings as a Berkshire wedding photographer have taken place during major sporting events because:

  • Guests relax faster
  • People bond over shared excitement
  • The day feels less formal and more joyful

And remember — your wedding happens once.
The World Cup happens every four years.

A Note on Summer Light & Photography in Berkshire

If you’re getting married in June or July 2026, the long summer evenings are a huge bonus.

I always encourage couples to:

  • Plan for golden hour portraits
  • Avoid cramming everything into one tight window
  • Leave breathing space in the timeline

World Cup weddings often benefit from this slower, more flexible approach — and the photos reflect that.

My Honest Advice as a Berkshire Wedding Photographer

If you love your date — keep it.
If you love football — embrace it.
If you don’t care about football — your guests will still show up for you.

With clear communication, thoughtful timings and a photographer who knows how to adapt, your wedding won’t feel overshadowed by the World Cup at all.

Annabel was a great photographer at our wedding – she was not only on time (key for all of those early “getting-ready” snaps that us girls love), but she also made everyone feel so at ease throughout the day!

From the first moment we spoke to her we knew we were in good hands. The best part was that Annabel sent us a checklist of things that we should think about before we had even booked our venue (!) – the list was not only helpful in picking out what style of photos we wanted, but it pretty much helped us arrange the whole wedding day and allowed us to think about all of those little touches! I would highly recommend Annabel if you are looking for a professional, easy going and friendly photographer to take those special moment photos during your day that you don’t even notice are being taken. Thank you Annabel – we absolutely love our photos”.
